Dr. Huo studies empathy and altruism in later life. She is especially interested in identifying helping behaviors among older adults with health limitations (e.g., functional limitations, cognitive impairment), and understanding whether/how helping others may strengthen these older adults’ resilience in the face of their limitations. Dr. Huo’s research relies on self-report survey data, daily and ecological momentary assessments, biomarker data, geocoded data, objective assessments of physical activity via accelerometers, and real-life observational data.

In her spare time, she likes playing jigsaw puzzles and building models.
